CLASSIFICATION: Apprentice/Journeyman Line worker

DEPARTMENT: Line Distribution

REPORTS TO: Electric Foreman

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

Under the general supervision of the Electric Foreman, performs skilled electrical work in the construction, maintenance, and operation of the MMLP's electrical distribution system, both overhead and underground. Perform connects and reconnects for residential and commercial services; repair broken or worn-out electrical equipment; install 3-phase and single-phase electrical meters; assist in troubleshooting electrical problems, high or low voltage.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Participate in job briefings to discuss work tasks and assignments; attend monthly safety meetings.
  • Construct power lines, including setting and framing poles, stringing wire, hanging, and connecting transformer banks.
  • Operate different specialized tools; equipment including digger derrick, trencher, and skid loader in congested areas and/or near energized high voltage lines.
  • Assist crew with monthly generation operations and maintenance
  • Enter and work in confined spaces.
  • Perform tree trimming.
  • Install, maintain, and repair street and service lights.
  • Operate locator to identify wire locations and underground faults.
  • Able to follow safety procedures, interact and communicate effectively with co-workers and the public.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of one-year electrical line worker trade school
  • Must be able to obtain a boiler operator license (Special Engineer) within six months of hire.
  • Must reside within a 15-minute response time, within six months of hire.
  • Must possess a valid MN CDL or obtain one within six months of hire.

Medical Equipment

Tree Trimming

If you notice tree branches in or near power lines please contact our office at 642-8803. Our line crew will clear the branches from our power line right of way and house services. Normal line clearance is routinely done in winter months.

In case of emergencies after business hours, on weekends, or on holidays please call 642-8803. You will receive information on who is on standby and a cell phone number so you can contact them directly. This is just one of the areas where local service really pays off with faster response time!

Mandated by the State, public utilities operating in Minnesota are required to invest a portion of their revenue in conservation improvement.

Madelia Municipal Light & Power has implemented a number of programs to help its customers conserve energy and potentially reduce their utility bill.
