Cold Weather Rule (CWR) Protections for Renters and Homeowners
As a reminder, the Cold Weather Rule (CWR) provides important protections for both renters and homeowners from having their electric or gas service disconnected between October 1 and April 30. However, to qualify for shutoff prevention, you must apply for the Energy Assistance Program (EAP) through Minnesota Valley Action Council (MVAC).
It’s important to note that the Cold Weather Rule does not automatically prevent all winter disconnections. To ensure your service remains connected, you must complete and submit an Application for MN Valley Action Council Energy Assistance and establish and adhere to a Cold Weather Rule Payment Plan with Madelia Municipal Light and power.
If you receive a Notice of Proposed Disconnection this winter, it’s crucial to act promptly.
